I have subscriptions to Midwest Living, Southern Living, Taste of Home, Martha Stewart Everday Food & Cooking with Paula Dean. It is a bit out of control - I blame my mother. She is the one responsible for teaching me how to cook at a young age & often leaves food magazines lying around her house whenever I come to visit. I think I get my "cooking gene" from her. My sister definitely has her "baking gene".
Every now & then I will come across a dee-lish-looking recipe from these magazines & end up saving it so that I can make it & try it out. If it is "make-again" quality then I will put the recipe in my recipe book. If it is just "so-so" then I toss it out. My husband is a really good judge when it comes to my cooking (it really is true a way to a man's heart is through your cooking) so I will always ask him if it is "make-again" quality or not.
This evening was one of those "trial runs". I had seen this recipe for Turkey Potpie in my Taste of Home magazine & the picture of it looked yummy so I saved it & decided to try it tonight. It says to use turkey but I had some chicken breasts in my freezer that I needed to use up so you could use either or. It was really easy to make & put together & smelled so good while baking. And the best part - the recipe makes 2 potpies - one to bake now & the other to freeze for another day. Lovin' that!
Here is the finished product:
