I can't believe that there is now a name for the biggest shopping day of the year - Black Friday. The name alone is enough to keep me away from those crazy crowds!
I have never been a fan of this phenomenon. I get up early enough on the weekdays, so why would I want to get up to go shopping at 4am? Are the deals really that amazing? Am I missing out on all the savings? It seems to me that these sales go on for over a month, but the stores must be doing something to get these people up that early and out shopping all on the same day.
Don't get me wrong, I love it when the stores display all the fun holiday decorations - it truly gets you in the spirit - but the other 30 days I have to enjoy them are enough for me! Before reading any further, you must take a minute and view this video. It is the scene at the KC Nebraska Furniture Mart at 5am this morning:

Can you say CRAZY? Crazy for getting up that early to stand in the freezing cold and crazy that they didn't get trampled or killed and for what? A bargain? Like I said....CRAZY! If you are reading this and you are one of those people, I'm sorry and more power to you! I just will never understand it! I guess my sleep is more important than a "good deal" :)
So, with that said, I spent my Black Friday sleeping in and then venturing out around 11am, taking my husband out to lunch and hitting a few stores ourselves. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the lines were short and KC traffic not too bad. I guess all those "early birds" had gone home and back to bed by then :)
